Hello, I’m Paulyna, a bioinformatician based near Cambridge, dedicated to advancing structural biology through the power of AI. Currently, as part of the AlphaFold Database team at EMBL-EBI, I explore the intricate world of protein structures. My expertise centers on leveraging AlphaFold 2 and AlphaFold 3 for high-accuracy protein structure and complex prediction, coupled with a critical evaluation of their outputs. I specialise in interpreting confidence metrics and benchmarking these advanced models to generate reliable insights for applications spanning diverse biological systems and accelerating drug discovery initiatives.
My scientific journey began with a BSc in Genomic Biotechnology in Mexico, followed by an MSc in Biotechnology from the UANL in Mexico, and a PhD from the University of Nottingham. My doctoral research, which focused on Solute Carrier Transporters using everything from computational analysis to CRISPR, cemented my passion for tackling complex biological questions with data-driven approaches and innovative tools
